What's in it for you?
This course teaches you how to create compelling, contemporary black and white images of urban areas. You will leave the course with photographs which you can later frame, create postcards or other artwork with. You will also get a basic grounding in the art of black and white photography.
Our subjects are places and objects that we'd normally pass by but which make great themes for black and white photography.
What's involved?
We set our cameras to capture black and white images, rather than converting the images to black and white later. This gives students instant feedback, a better understanding of black and white photography and a knowledge of what works and what doesn't.
You will need
You will need a digital compact camera, which allows you to capture images in black and white, or a digital SLR. A lightweight tripod is useful but is not always necessary.

Absolute beginners
Novice photographers
Intermediate photographers (looking for some new inspiration).
Logistics
The three hour course takes place on location in selected Cumbrian towns. We walk through the town, travelling light, seeking out interesting subjects and taking photographs as we go. You'll be on your feet throughout. Stout shoes or boots are recommended. It's a fun and liberating experience.
